Holy time vacuum.
Say hello the world’s largest and most diverse weekend market, and goodbye to several hours of your life.
I strolled into the Chatuchak Weekend Market one Sunday morning and didn’t find my way out of this pan’s labyrinth until nightfall. With over 200,000 visitors every weekend, more than 15,000 stalls and over 11,500 vendors, this is not the place for your leisurely meditative walk.
If there were a fireworks show for the senses, the Chatuchak Weekend Market would be the grand finale.
Chatuchak is an endless bombardment of enticing aromas, a constant test of budgeting willpower, and a crash course in herd navigation. As a minimalist, Chatuchak pushed me to my limits as I endured 35 acres of vintage, denim, kicks, jewelry, art, handicrafts, shades, books, boatloads of food and a plethora of mango sticky rice. It’s not just the items for sale that attack your senses, this market is full of larger than life characters! If I were a casting director, I would place my office smack in the middle of the market, and never have to look at a headshot again.
Here you can comfortably shop till you drop. And then get a foot massage.
