Correcting Your Posture Could Be the Cure to Ending Chronic Pain

correcting your posture

At least 80 percent of you reading this are experiencing some form of back pain. This number is alarming. Many will try anything to find relief, from acupuncture to cupping, physical therapy to rolfing, trigger point injections to bioelectric therapy, massage to meditation, reiki healing to herbal remedies, prescription drugs to chiropractic care.

Yes. I have literally tried all those things.

The truth is, pain relief could be as simple as focusing on correcting your posture and making some small adjustments. When I was actively dancing ballet, I never experienced back or neck pain. I mean sure I had the occasional bloody toes (gross I know) but because my training really emphasized good posture, I never endured back pain. While my training schedule was rigorous (Mon-Sun), I have to admit I always felt great. It wasn’t until after my ballet career that my battle with chronic neck pain began. No, literally, the pain began as soon as I didn’t have my ballet teacher breathing down my neck. Pun intended.

The Value of Feedback

I think a lot of factors came into play. For one, I was always in motion, and dance is a wonderful form of release. Humans are not built to sit in 90-degree angles all day. We are hunter and gatherers, built to endure physical challenges and move our bodies in a way that would allow us to provide for ourselves. Now it seems we have tons of feast, but no famine, so we go from car to desk, to lunch table, back to the car, to couch, to bed. This is a recipe not only for back pain, but chronic back pain at that.

My ballet training made me insanely strong, it gave me a wicked core, the washboard abs kind (I know you’re googling ballet classes right now). Unfortunately, I went from Superwoman abs to sitting in 90-degree angles working in front of my computer for long stretches at a time. Although I was still working on other creative endeavors, my posture took a big hit.

I lost awareness of how I was holding my body, and I didn’t have my ballet teacher there to remind me. Then I discovered an amazing device called the UPRIGHT GO, which makes correcting your posture easier than ever. I began my very own Pavlovian conditioning experiment on myself, and it worked! My conditioned response was correct posture for the win!

The UPRIGHT GO is essentially a smart personal trainer for your posture.

It also looks a lot better and is way more functional than having to wear an ugly back brace all day. Let’s keep it real, if it’s not cute, it’s not sustainable. This device is tiny, non-invasive and super easy to use! You simply place it on your back (uses hypoallergenic adhesive stickers) and sync it to the free UPRIGHT GO app. When you slouch, the device vibrates, providing an instant reminder to correct your posture. Don’t worry, it’s a very gentle reminder, unlike that of ballet teacher. Yikes. [spacer height=”20px”]

Consistency is Key to Positive, Lasting Change

The UPRIGHT GO is the ideal companion to help you track your posture and make corrections. It trains you to sit properly through instant feedback, which is what made Pavlov’s conditioning so successful. All day you are receiving real-time feedback from your phone, and it will even tally up your slouchy moments, and reward you for slaying perfect posture for the day! This groundbreaking device captures infographics of your daily movement and holds you accountable for your posture when no one else will. You can wear it while sitting, standing, walking, or driving.

Remember, bad posture happens everywhere.

Improving your posture can take away one of the most common causes of chronic back and neck pain. All it requires is a commitment to wearing the UPRIGHT GO device regularly until you have retrained your body to sit, stand, walk, and drive with proper posture. Like in so many areas of life, consistency is key. With persistence, life-changing results are possible.

One simple adjustment can lead to a lifetime of relief from pain.
