Improving your health may be easier than you think! Here are ten simple and sustainable health habits to help you feel great and boost your health in 2019:
#1 Get some quality shut-eye.
Getting enough sleep is essential for good health, but making sure you are getting high quality in sleep is also important. To improve your sleep quality, spend the same hours asleep every night, stay away from screens before you go to bed and limit your intake of caffeine after 4pm.
#2 Stay in motion.
The more you move, the better you’ll feel. Spend time engaging in physical activity on a daily basis to improve your fitness and stay healthy. Redefine what movement means to you. No need to spend to drag yourself to a gym, if you truly don’t enjoy it. Walking, dancing, taking different exercise classes, going on a hike- all of it counts as movement. You don’t have to kill yourself at crossfit or spend hours on a treadmill.
#3 Disconnect and get connected.
The more time we spend playing the comparison game on social media, the more weep womp we become. It’s time to ‘shut it down’. Emojis cannot replace our need for intimacy and connection. Spending quality time with the people we love and making new connections is what truly feeds us. We are by nature tribal, and spending countless hours alone staring into a screen or phone is not fulfilling that need.
Having support from friends and family can make all the difference.
#4 Try out earthing.
Earthing is a technique that keeps you in direct, uninterrupted contact with the earth. It offers several potential benefits, including less pain, less inflammation and increased energy. Try out earthing and see if it works for you.
#5 Meditate.
Spend time meditating to relieve stress and bring a sense of calm to your life.
#6 Be minimalist.
Simplify your life by downsizing in certain areas, whether it be your possessions, your spending or your social calendar. Eliminate clutter.
#7 Eat more plants.
Clutter in your home makes you feel anxious and overwhelmed. Simplify your life by purging what you don’t need and cleaning up your living space.
#8 Practice self-acceptance.
Learn to radically accept who you are ,and where you are, at this point in your life. A lot of our struggles come from not accepting what is in front of us. We must embrace an attitude of acceptance. Self compassion and self love is the strongest medicine there is.
#9 Drink water.
Perhaps one of the simplest things you can do to feel great is to drink more water. Most people are chronically dehydrated. Aim for at least eight glasses of water every day.
#10 Have fun.
Taking time for recreation has a powerful effect on both physical and emotional health. Even if you have a busy schedule, always make time for fun.
